Eat Well – The food that we eat is fuel for our bodies, so making sure that you are eating correctly is like putting the right fuel in your car! As well as the fact that we need food for energy, we also get nutrients and vitamins from food that keep the body healthy. Eating foods that are high in vitamins and minerals, a good range of foods and reducing processed foods and increasing raw foods, including plenty of fruits and vegetables is a good way to ensure that you are getting all you need.
Exercise – Keeping the body active as you get older reduces the risk of high blood pressure and the serious illnesses that it can result in, and also helps you to stay mobile so that you can enjoy retirement. From joining a sports team, to taking up fitness classes, keeping active not only helps you physically, but also mentally, as exercise releases endorphins – feel good chemicals in the brain.
Take Care of your Mental Health – Retirement can be a strange time, and many people struggle with the transition to it, as well as the lack of routine that comes with not working. Mentally preparing yourself for retirement is a good idea, and planning tasks and goals into your life, as well as planning daily routines and activities to keep you busy. Mindfulness and meditation are also good things to practise to help you stay mentally well.
