The Jaguar I-Pace can already claim to be the fastest production electric car in Laguna Seca. Newcomer to the market, the zero emission SUV was presented as a real alternative to the Tesla Model X and now with this new feat, he throws the glove to the American SUV. Will we see it try to overcome it in the American layout?
Shortly before making an appearance at the Pebble Beach Elegance Contest, where he has been surrounded by spectacular concepts and hyper-sports, the Nissan I-Pace decided to go through the WeatherTech circuit at Laguna Seca. With the pilot and American journalist Randy Pobst at his command, the electric SUV ‘made in’ Jaguar has set a time of 1: 48.18 minutes on the Californian track.
Specifically, it has been done by a Jaguar I-Pace HSE First Edition and the brand ensures that it has not received any type of modification, thus being identical to the production model. Eleven laps made the British SUV before reaching the mark that makes it the fastest serial and four-door electric car in Laguna Seca.
Conquering Laguna Seca
The Jaguar I-Pace got the record on August 18, as shown by Motor Trend, a medium for which writes Randy Pobst, better known as ‘The Rocket’. Of course, the best lap has been recorded on video by the North American publication, so we can enjoy the Jaguar I-Pace in action getting its best time.
In the video, we can see how Pobst is eating the pianos and making a lot of corrections to the steering wheel, in addition to letting out a giggle after tackling the famous Sacorchos and its difference of up to 12%. What we see is not surprising: we have already driven the I-Pace on a circuit and it confirms what we already knew: that its speed on the curve loses a little compared to its combustion brothers, but it compensates thanks to its rapid acceleration.

With this mark, the Jaguar I-Pace remains at twenty seconds of the time achieved by the Dodge Viper ACR, which remains today the fastest production car in Laguna Seca, ten of its combustion brother, the Jaguar F-Pace, already two of the Volkswagen Golf R. Taking into account that its status as an electric model, is not bad.
400 CV of pure muscle … and zero emissions
The first 100% electrified Jaguar model arrived this spring, with good arguments under its arm to look at the Tesla Model X one on one. Equipped with two electric propellers, one associated with the front axle and the other located at the rear, and linked by a concentric transmission, which make it a total traction.
Together, they give the Jaguar I-Pace a delivery of 400 HP and take their energy from a 90-kWh ion-lithium battery of 432 cells. Its autonomy is close to 480 kilometers on paper, very close to that offered by Model X.
To optimize its dynamics to the maximum, the batteries are located as low as possible of its flat bottom, in addition to having an optimized center of gravity to avoid unnecessary rocking. Its stability helps a weight distribution of the most balanced: 50:50. After testing it on the road, dirt roads and circuit our sensations were excellent, convincing us both dynamically and technologically. And now he has one more argument: to be the fastest electric in Laguna Seca. Will anyone dare to overcome it?
