How to Honor the Vietnam Veterans in Your Life

Nearly 9 million Americans served in the armed forces during the longest war in American history. It was a war that divided the country, and because of that, not all Vietnam veterans receive the recognition they deserve. There are several steps you can take to ensure the sacrifices of those who fought for this country are never forgotten.

Visit the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial lists the names of the 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam Conflict. Patriots from around the country leave photos, flowers and mementos at the base of the wall to honor these American Heroes.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is open 24 hours a day. There is no charge to visit the memorial.

Hire Veterans

American veterans are some of the most intelligent, hardworking and well-trained individuals in the world. Unfortunately, many veterans struggle to find employment after leaving the military. Contact your local Employment Representative for Veterans to learn more about hiring veterans.

Advocate

Be an advocate for Vietnam War veterans. Call and write your state representatives. Ask them to extend VA benefits, address the after-effects of Agent Orange exposure and fund better mental health care services for veterans suffering from PTSD.

Never Forget

If you see someone wearing a hat that identifies them as a veteran, thank them for their service. Place flags on the graves of veterans in your local cemetery. Offer to help disabled veterans with errands and household chores. Small acts of kindness show veterans that you will never forget that they are the reason America is a free country.

The men and women who serve in the armed forces display a tremendous amount of courage, and they have every reason to be proud of their service. That’s why several companies make US military outfits for veterans and their families. Wearing a shirt, hat, patch or button that identifies you as a Vietnam veteran is a great way to start a conversation about your service.
