Technology and GadgetMobile phones have transformed the way we live, making light work of communicating and always being connected. Here are some of the more extreme uses of these devices that have been impressive enough to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records:
Largest collection of phones – This record belongs to Carsten Tews of Germany who is the proud owner of 1563 different mobile phones. Most downloaded game for mobile – Tetris is the most downloaded game for mobile with a whopping 100 million downloads as of 2010. The game was originally created in 1985 by Alexey Pajitnov.
First commercial mobile phone – Despite the first smartphone being invented by IBM in 1994, the first commercially available standard mobile phone was the Dynatac 8000X made by Motorola in 1983. It was known as The Brick due to its rather weighty 785g.
Priciest device – Designed by Goldvish of Geneva, the most expensive mobile phone cost 1 million euros in 2006. It was sold at the Millionaires Fair in Cannes in 2006.
Farthest phone throw by a male – Yes mobile phone throwing is considered a sport in some countries. At a competition in Belgium in August 2014, the record was achieved by Dries Feremans who managed to launch a phone a staggering 362 feet!
Fastest alphabet type on a phone – This world record belongs to Dwani Bhut of India who achieved tying the alphabet in an impressive 3.87 seconds in February 2021.
