One way that individuals often get sick is because of the way they package and store food that they will use the next day or at some future time. Perhaps they make a meal today and want to serve the leftovers over the next couple of days. First of all, you need to make sure that you use the right packaging. You want to choose an air tight container or aluminum foil or a plastic wrap that will keep the food safe. The type of packaging you choose will depend on what you are storing and how long you want it to last.
It is important to make sure that certain types of food are refrigerated quickly. This will stop bacteria from growing and multiplying rapidly. Before you place items in the refrigerator or freezer, they need to be cooled down to at least room temperature. This will prevent the outside of the food from getting cold quickly and the inside of the food from staying warm, which can cause bacteria to grow. When you order food from a restaurant and take it home, you want to make sure that it is refrigerated quickly.
Before purchasing packaged food, make sure that the container is properly sealed. Look for areas where the packaging is torn or broken. If you find any rips or tears, tell the store manager and purchase something that is sealed. Also, look at the expiration date. Some items are fine after the noted expiration date, but it is a good rule of thumb is to only consume foods before their expiration date.
There are many steps that you can take in order to ensure that your food is safe for your consumption and the consumption of your family. Taking these steps can help you fight off foodborne illnesses and keep you safe.
