New to CCW? Three Tips for the Coming Months

Even if you have been handling firearms for years, carrying around a loaded weapon in public is going to be a much different experience. In addition to constantly honing your shooting skills, you will also need to make changes to how you dress and move. With a little bit of practice and some patience, you are going to have peace of mind knowing that you can protect yourself and your loved ones at all times.

Keep on Training

Finding a place to train with your concealed weapon might not be as easy as you think. Many shooting ranges dont allow their patrons to draw from a holster and shoot in the same motion. You will most likely need to practice drawing from the hip in a specialty room with wax bullets or no bullets at all. Your local shooting range might offer classes to those who have recently gotten a CCW permit.

Get Comfortable Carrying in Your Own Home

It might sound silly, but carrying your weapon around your own home in a concealed holster is one of the best ways to get used to having a firearm on you. Your weapon should be fully concealed at all times, and that means you will need to practice picking up items off the ground and reaching up to higher shelves without exposing the gun.

Experiment With Different Clothes and Holsters

When it comes to concealed carry clothing and holsters, there are thousands of products to choose from. Everyone has slightly different body mechanics, and no single holster or belt is going to work for everyone. Trying on different holsters, belts, and outfits at a local gun shop will give you a better idea of what is comfortable and practical.

Your CCW permit might remain valid for up to five years, but that doesnt mean you can ignore your training during that time. As a CCW permit holder, you must constantly be striving to improve your skills so that you respond smoothly and confidently in a dangerous situation.
